Stump Grinding Cost in Winston-Salem, NC

Every stump is different, so we quote every job on its own. Pricing starts at $200, and you get one firm, all-in price from a free on-site visit – no calculators, no surprises.

  • Fully Insured
  • Locally Owned
  • Free Quotes

What you’ll pay comes down to the stump in front of us, not a chart. Three things move the price up or down – and none of them show up in an online calculator, which is exactly why we quote on-site instead of over the web.

Why every stump needs a quote

Size & shape vary

The width at ground level is only half the story. A tall, flared, or partly buried stump hides a lot more wood than a photo shows – and more wood is more grinding.

Access matters

A stump out in the open is quick work. One wedged behind a fence, tight against the foundation, or down a slope means slower, more careful grinding to protect what’s around it.

Root systems vary

Some trees run roots for feet in every direction. If you want those chased down and ground out too, that’s added time on top of the stump itself.

The only way to price a stump accurately is to see it. We’ll measure, check the access, and hand you a firm quote before any grinding starts.

Pricing starts at

$200

That’s the starting point – not a flat rate. Because no two stumps are the same, every job is custom-quoted from there. You’ll have one firm, all-in price before any grinding begins.

The same $200 starting price and flat-quote pricing apply across Clemmons, Kernersville, Lewisville, Pfafftown, Tobaccoville, Walkertown, Winston-Salem.

Not offered

  • Full stump & root extraction (we grind, not dig)
  • Hauling the wood chips away

Stump Grinding Cost FAQs

How much does stump grinding cost in Winston-Salem?
Stump grinding in Winston-Salem starts at a $200 minimum, and every job is priced individually from there. Your final price depends on the stump’s size, how easy it is to reach, and the ground conditions – so we give you a firm, all-in quote from a free on-site visit before any work begins.
What does the $200 minimum cover?
It covers us coming out and grinding a small stump down to at least 4–6" below grade – deeper where the soil and access allow – with the chips left on site. Larger stumps, tight access, or surface roots you want ground out add to that, but you’ll always have an exact number in hand before we start.
Can you give me a price over the phone or from a photo?
We can ballpark it from a texted photo, but the firm price comes from a quick on-site look. A picture can’t show the flare hidden under the mulch, how far the roots run, or how tight the gate is – and those are exactly what move the number.
Do you charge by the inch?
Not on a chart. The stump’s size is definitely part of it – a bigger stump is more wood to grind – but it’s not the whole story. Access, wood hardness, and how far the roots run matter just as much, and a per-inch rate ignores all of that. So we factor the measurement in along with everything else and quote the whole job as one flat price.
Is it cheaper to grind several stumps at once?
Yes. Once the machine is already on your property, each extra stump costs less than it would on its own. Tell us the count and we’ll work up a whole-yard price.
Could the price change once you’re on site?
It depends how you got your quote. If we’ve already seen the stump in person, that price is firm – it’s the price you pay. If we gave you a ballpark from a texted photo, we’ll finalize the price on site before any work begins – so either way, you approve the number before the grinder ever starts.
Do you clean up or haul the wood chips away?
We rake the grindings back over the hole or leave them for you to use as mulch. We don’t haul chips off site – skipping the dump run is part of how we keep grinding affordable.
Should I grind the stump or have it fully removed?
For almost every yard, grinding is the smarter spend – far cheaper than digging out the whole root ball, and low enough to sod, plant, or build over. Full extraction is a different, pricier job; grinding is what we do, and do well.
