Surface roots and runners ground out to stop tripping hazards, mower damage, and suckering sprouts.

  • Surface and trip-hazard roots ground down
  • Stops suckering and regrowth

A ground stump can still leave surface roots snaking across the yard. We grind those runners down so your lawn is smooth, safe to mow, and free of new sprouts.

Root Removal FAQs

What’s the difference between stump grinding and root removal?

Stump grinding removes the stump itself, below grade. Root removal deals with the surface roots and runners that spread out from where the tree stood – the ones that trip you up, dent mower blades, or send up new shoots. Many yards benefit from both.

Will grinding surface roots damage my lawn?

We grind roots down just below the surface and disturb as little turf as possible. The area is left ready to level, seed, or sod. It’s far gentler on your lawn than digging roots out by hand or machine.

Can you stop tree roots from sprouting new shoots?

Yes. Species like maple, poplar, and sweetgum throw up suckers from surface roots long after the tree is gone. Grinding those runners removes the growth points so the sprouting stops.

Do you remove roots growing under a driveway or foundation?

We grind surface and near-surface roots in open ground. Roots running under concrete, driveways, or a foundation are a different job – send a photo and we’ll tell you honestly what we can safely reach before you commit.

How much does root removal cost?

Root grinding is usually quoted alongside the stump, based on how far the roots run and site access. The most accurate way to price it is a free estimate – send a photo of the roots and we’ll get you a number.
